Dragons were prominent symbols during the Middle Ages and were used by Owen Tudor, great grandfather of Henry VIII. This symbol is associated with Cadwaladr, King of Gwynedd in Wales who reigned around 655-682. After winning the Battle of Bosworth Field, Henry VII used a red dragon on a white and green background as its emblem.
