The 2023 Britannia (1 oz) silver bullion coin represents a unique collector's milestone in numismatics, as it charts the historical succession of the British throne within a single year of issue.
The coin exists in three different obverse variants:
the first bears the classic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (Jody Clark),
the second depicts the first official portrait of King Charles III without a crown (Martin Jennings)
and the third, the rarest version, depicts King Charles III with a crown (the so-called Crowned Portrait), which was issued in a limited edition of 200,000 pieces on the occasion of his coronation. Of these, 500 pieces were placed on a numismatic numbered card. While the reverse side with the figure of Britannia and modern security features remains unchanged, the existence of these three variants in a single year makes the 2023 vintage a sought-after set for investors and collectors around the world.
