The Paris Mint celebrates the 120th anniversary of the death of the famous science fiction novelist Jules Verne. The collection includes coins with motifs from his greatest works, as well as a portrait of the writer himself.

On the obverse of this coin, Phileas Fogg is in the foreground in his hot air balloon, accompanied by Jean Passepartout, his faithful French valet, and Mrs Aouda, the young widow he saved. Several elements allow us to place the work in its context, notably Big Ben, symbol of the starting and arrival point of this adventure. The watch, for its part, illustrates the pressing nature of this journey, emphasizing that Phileas Fogg is engaged in a real race against time to win his bet. The name of the author, the title Around the World in 80 Days and the year are found in the outline of the coin.
