In Chinese or Eastern culture, the snake-like dragon is a symbol of luck, wealth and abundance. One or two dragons are often depicted chasing a ball or playing with a pearl. Being born in the Lunar Year of the Dragon is considered lucky.
The coin depicts two dragons against a background of clouds surrounding a mother-of-pearl inlay in the center of the coin. The coin bears the Perth Mint's 125th anniversary mark and the inscription Year of the Dragon, which falls on the Lunar Chinese Year of the Dragon, which repeats every twelve years.
